Is This (World) A Joke?

It’s been one of those days.

Today I accumulated a trove in my daily trek for irony and surreality. More interesting than what most of the media has to say this week.

First of all, one of the morons over at gawker.com emailed me this. It was in response to my statement that it’s pretty obvious that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were the catalysts for the subprime meltdown leading to the bigger market meltdown. He’s no doubt protecting Barney Frank. He could’ve done something even more childish, I guess, such as change the subject by attacking me for not knowing what a credit default swap is, thereby making it look like he won the argument. Fannie and Freddie may have sold off a small portion of their subprime loans in the past year, but you don’t make drastic changes after eight years unless you know you made a major boo-boo. CDS’s may have bankrupted AIG, but they didn’t start the fire.

Secondly - and probably more important, really - the greatest band ever is about to make the biggest mistake ever. Yes, Led Zeppelin is the greatest band ever. Eight out of their ten LP’s are flawless, the other two are meant to be rough. That’s the way we like it.

More geniusnosity over at gawker:

McCain daughter Meghan: she blogs, she’s threatened to get a tattoo, and now she’s declaring herself punk as fuck when asked about her friendship with Linda Ramone, wife of Johnny from the Ramones—the band whose punk-rock ethics were offset by many of its members’ kneejerk Queens-bred working class Republicanism.

Um, sorry babe, but there were only four people in the Ramones, and only one of them was a Republican: Johnny Ramone. He’s dead, in case you didn’t know. These people are the reason blogs and blogging have come to suck. They’ve diluted it writing about every little thing in the world they know very little about. The tabloids are the worse. Stick to celebs, it’s all we can believe you about at least half the time.

Fire it Up!

I wouldn’t necessarily want Mike Gravel running the country, but here’s one of the reasons I love the guy…

Strickland

Some recent state governing has been offsetting the sadness of the Federal level for the past few months, thanks to Ted Strickland working closely with conservatives. After Ohio was sued by the Ohio Tobacco Prevention Foundation because they weren’t given any of the money the state got from a settlement with tobacco companies, the governor signed legislation to abolish the organization. Most of that money will go to a much-needed new state jobs fund. Of course, it isn’t all good news for private businesses, as the smoking ban fines are doubling. That probably won’t matter much since many of the businesses who were affected by the ban have either closed shop or utilized some sort of outside patio for smokers. Some bars are standing up for their rights and still fighting the good fight.

Thanks to a new bill in the works, Ohioans can rest easy when blowing criminals’ heads off. Strickland will more than likely sign legislation expanding CCW laws, protecting gun owners from being sued by intruders and a few other pointless regulations regarding guns in cars. It’s been fittingly labeled the “Castle Doctrine,” and what a sweet sound those words make.

Strickland has officially made it impossible for me to lump every Democrat into the category of “liberal that loves to complain, offers no solutions and rejects and judges someone’s every move because they are a member a different group.”

Write-in Revolution

Ron Paul’s new book The Revolution hit number one at Amazon this week. This would be a good time for the RP faithful to plan a July 4th “Get Out the Write-in Vote” message for his seemingly never-ending campaign. After all, there isn’t really going to be a good candidate on the ballot anyway.
